Les résolutions, ça résout quoi? ::: What are resolutions supposed to resolve anyway?

Reighton Road

J'ai vu Skyfall, Life of Pi, Moonrise Kingdom, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, The Master, ParaNorman, Frankenweenie, et plein d'autres (ma mémoire est toujours aussi affligeante...)

Reighton Road

I don't do resolutions because I forget/ignore/amend them anyway. And the 1st of January is just another day to change your life around... I did make a bit of an effort last year and hadn't looked at my list since; but I did somehow manage to cross most things off, quite the achievement for the lazy skeptic that I am! To be perfectly honest, they were more like predictions, or hopes, than rock solid good intentions...

2012 will be...
  • One more year in London, and checking if the first year really was the hardest. Yes, I can now confirm that the first year definitely was the worst, and the second was the best!
  • Moving in order to feel better at home. Done, and still feeling good about it 10 months and a housemate changeover later.
  • Taking care of my friends everywhere, and not being scared of reaching out. So so. It's not easy, that friendship thing... I think I probably lost as many friends as I gained in 2012. But I've definitely learned to relax and enjoy being around new people. How about a bit of a collective effort for 2013?
  • Cooking again. With a great new kitchen and a new stomach to fill occasionally, yes, without a doubt!
  • Learning a new craft (pottery? looming? millinery? floristry? quilting?) I have to say I failed here, at least in the sense that I initially intended: signing up to some kind of class and going regularly. However, I did learn how to surf, how to dance (on 31 December, it's never too late!), and how to make pie pastry from scratch, among other things... I'm still up for trying new things in 2013, and I'd say it's off to a good start already!
  • Being more active and actually enjoying it (yoga? dance? hiking? running?) No, this one is a lost cause. It's more of a life project than a one-year achievement anyway.
  • Buying more quality products that are good for me and for the environment. Yes! And it does feel good.
  • Going to the cinema regularly. Now that I've got a cinema buddy, I tend to see more than the films I would normally pick, and it always gives me a good excuse to go! But I still enjoy going on my own. I've seen Skyfall, Life of Pi, Moonrise Kingdom, Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, The Master, ParaNorman, Frankenweenie, and many others (my memory is as bad as ever...)
  • Attending a real music concert/show, for the first time in my life! This one is dedicated to my lovely little brother, who introduced me (figuratively) to Tallest Man on Earth by forcing me to get tickets to his show last July. I loved it!
  • Stockholm, Berlin, Barcelona, Portugal, Italy, Greece maybe? Stockholm only, and Hamburg rather than Berlin; I don't get passing grades here but it really was worth it anyway! And the rest of them are carried on to 2013...

2012 also was...

And 2013 could be...
  • A chance to visit, on top of last year's leftovers, Prague, Copenhagen, Munich, Madrid, Morocco, Istanbul, Ireland or Iceland perhaps?
  • A good opportunity to diversify my creative outputs. I left all my gear behind when I moved from Quebec, and I'm far from having recreated the same resources here. But it's been so easy to adapt to a craft-less life that I'm starting to worry: I must start making again before I completely forget how my hands work!
And that's it, let's keep it simple... I like surprises too much to try and foresee everything!

Wishing us many discoveries, adventures and projects for 2013... Happy New Year!
